Alhaji Lai Mohammed, an Astute businessman, active politician and the Minister of Information and Culture, is a man with prodigious gifts, his formidable power of erudition, steely courage, and epic curiosity about the affairs of the land of his birth, as well his astute grasp of law are qualities which have continued to bring him into lime light.
Born in 1952 into the family of Alhaji Mohammed Adeleye, an indigene of Kwara State, Nigeria but based in Lagos, Lai obtained a bachelor’s degree in French from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife in 1975 and a Law degree from the University of Lagos (Unilag). His hard work and sterling academic qualities manifested glaringly in his been called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. Alhaji Lai Mohammed’s inextinguishable zeal to succeed as a Lawyer led to his co-founding the legal firm of Edu & Mohammed as a Senior Partner in 1989.
The erudite existentialist and humanist, Alhaji Mohammed is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and has worked as Public Relations Officer for almost 10 years with the Nigerian Airport Authority, now Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Sequel to his illustrious political career, he had rendered meritorious service as the Chairman of Optmedia Limited, a subsidiary of Afromedia Plc since December 18, 2008. And thereafter he served as a Director of Afromedia PLC since May 2011.
In October 2002, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had a vision that he was called upon serve his good people of Kwara State; he threw his hat into the ring and became a candidate in the gubernatorial elections of 2003 in Kwara State under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy. In spite of all the inherent contradictions, God’s faithfulness to his word took the most extraordinary dimension in the life of this honourable gentleman when he was called to serve as Chief of Staff to former governor of Lagos state, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A man of extra-ordinary spirit; Lai Mohammed has engaged himself in a life of commitment to build his reputation based on hard work, resilience and determination. These are qualities that endeared him to the leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC) who found him suitable for the National Publicity Secretary of the party where he has lived so much up to expectations. A golden fish has no hiding place so, in October, 2015, Lai was named as one of the Ministerial nominees to appear before the Senate in the President Buhari’s Led Administration.
